How fast is Sentinel-Hub?

For an image like Europe below, for example, to generate manually it would require the download of 60+ products/tiles taking up about 40GB of data. This data would then need to be uncompressed, processed, projected and then merged before yielding the desired image, not such an easy task given the amount of it. Whereas on Sentinel-Hub the same result is processed in a couple of seconds, independent of when, where, or what order of tiles you choose.

Sentinel Hub is fast

This mosaic is comprised of more than 60 Sentinel-2 products/tiles which in total represents approx. 40GB of data. It takes only a few seconds for this image to render using

Sentinel-Hub also greatly improves access in areas with slow/limited bandwidth, it is possible to set the returned image's compression to JPEG to further cut down bandwidth usage. Get the results you need with minimal bandwidth. Instead of transferring 40 GB, the image returned in JPEG format takes up about 0.5 MB!

Fixed pixel sizes

A plot of total WMS query times as a function of the number of pixels in the image. Pixel size in world coordinates is held to be constant, i.e. increasing the number of pixels in the image therefore also increases the world area being displayed.

Zoom level

A plot of total WMS query times as a function of the zoom level. The query width/height is held to be constant while the bounding box is increased. As you can see, performance is roughly independent of zoom level. This graph includes previews at level 1 ( after zoom level shift.

The bars in the plot reflect the variance in the measurements.
